Any day on (and especially IN) the ocean is a good day. In difficult times we can escape to the wonders and mysteries beneath the surface.

Today and every day we are so thankful for the ocean, and are full of awe and respect for its power. We all share a duty to protect our blue planet ๐Ÿ’™

World Environment Day 2021. Together we can be #ge World Environment Day 2021. Together we can be #generationrestoration

In recent months two severe tropical cyclones wreaked havoc on Fiji's island of Vanua Levu. The impact on local lives was immense, with considerable damage to homes, schools, other infrastructure, and crops.

The cost to the natural world, unseen by the majority of people, included substantial damage to some of the beautiful, yet fragile, shallow coral reefs.

Individual actions together can lead to big results, so recently we have started our coral restoration programme, with the first pilot installation. Placing coral fragments dislodged by the cyclones in rope nurseries where, hopefully, they will develop into larger colonies that can subsequently be replanted onto the reef.

A change of perspective today. The beautiful flowers of the tree Barringtonia asiatica, known as Vutu in Fiji, are often found floating on the surface of the water close to shore.

The fruit of this tree was formerly used as a fish poison, giving rise to the common name 'Fish Poison Tree'.
